My name is Jamie Roeske and I am a third year neuroscience student at the University of Calgary. Some of my interests include brain-computer interfaces (BCIs), neuroanatomy, and pediatric care. As a volunteer with Alberta Health Services since 2016, I have gained extensive experience working in triage scenarios in an emergency room, with stroke, epilepsy, TBI, and neurosurgery patients at the Foothills Hospital, and with pediatric patients with developmental delays at the Alberta Children's Hospital. If I am not volunteering, I can be found in the Wilson Lab at the Hotchkiss Brain Institute using a novel rat spinal cord - carotid body - brainstem preparation and electrophysiological techniques to investigate how prostaglandins modulate the Spinal Oxygen Sensors response to hypoxia. I have developed my pitching skills while presenting my research at the UCalgary Falling Walls Labs Pitch Competition, Calgary SIDS Society Annual General Meeting, and various UCalgary student research symposiums. I am incredibly excited to expand my research skills and understanding of neuroscience through NeuroNexus this year!
